Joint Research Laboratory Agreement Signed between The School of Engineering, Swansea University, UK & The Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China
On September 28, 2008, an agreement on establishing a Joint Research Laboratory for “Discontinuum Mechanics for Engineering Disasters” was signed between the School of Engineering, Swansea University, UK & the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China
Considering discontinuous mechanics and dynamic theory for engineering disasters can play a significant role in the construction of many geological engineering structures, the prediction and prevention of geologically related natural disasters and the safety of large-scale infrastructures, both the Institute of Mechanics, CAS and the School of Engineering, SU are willing to take their advantages of the above field and further enhance the bilateral collaboration in geological slope stability analysis and early prediction/warning for geologically related natural disasters using discontinuum mechanics based computational techniques.
To facilitate the realization of the above goals, the Institute of Mechanics, CAS and the School of Engineering, SU propose to establish the above mentioned joint research laboratory.
