The 5th China-Germany Workshop on Microgravity and Space Life Sciences was held in Rottach-Egern, Germany on Sep. 10-14, 2012. This workshop was organized by German Aerospace Center (DLR), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Chinese National Space Administration (CNSA), and National Microgravity Laboratory (NML) of CAS. 119 scientists participated in this workshop, among which 71 participants are from Germany and the other 48 participants are from China. Professor M. Long, the director of the National Microgravity Laboratory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Prof. R. Gerzer, the director of the Institute of Aerospace Medicine, German Aerospace Center, were the co-chairs of the workshop.
Prof. Long presented plenary lecture “Progress update of Microgravity Sciences and Space Biology at National Microgravity Laboratory”. And Prof. P. Preu, the head of the Life and Physical Sciences Dept. at the DLR Space Agency, gave plenary lecture “The German Programme ‘Research under Space Conditions’ – Overview and programmatic aspects”. 89 oral presentations covered many scientific fields including Material Science, Fluid Physics, Fundamental Physics, Microgravity Facilities, SIMBOX/Shenzhou-8, Gravitational Biology, Radiation and Astrobiology, Neurovestibular Physiology, Muscle and Bone Physiology, Biogenerative Life Support Systems, Immunology, and Cardiovascular Physiology.
These reports presented many recent scientific achievements and advanced space experiment technology. Some works were based on the cooperative research between Sino-German scientists. During the meeting, the possible joint experiment proposals were also discussed. Through the oral presentations and active discusses, the exchanges and cooperation of Microgravity and Space Life Sciences between Chinese and German scientists were promoted greatly, and the conference was a great success.
