Asian Microgravity Pre-Symposium
10th Asian Microgravity Symposium（AMS-2014）
Successfully Held in
Asian Microgravity Symposium was held successfully in Seoul, Korea on
Oct. 28-31 2014. This symposium was organized by Korean
Microgravity Society (KMS), National Society of Microgravity Science
and Application (NSMSA), Institute of Mechanics, CAS. Technology and
Engineering Center for Space Utilization, CAS and Japan Society of
Microgravity Application (JASMA).
Prof. Qiu Sheng LIU, Prof. Jing Chang XIE, Prof. Jian Fu ZHAO, Prof.
Shuang Feng WANG, Prof. Rong LIU and other four students from the
Institute of Mechanics, CAS were invited to attend this symposium.
Inho CHOI of Yonsei University, Korea was the chair of this
symposium. Professor Qiu Sheng LIU, the director of the National
Society of Microgravity Science and Application (NSMSA), the
researcher of the Institute of Mechanics, CAS and Professor Masamichi
ISHIKAWA, the director of Japan Society of Microgravity Application
(JASMA) were the co-chairs of the symposium.
symposium has the largest number of participants than the previous
ones. More than 156 scientists participated in this symposium, among
which 51 participants are from China and the other 105 participants
are from other countries, including Pakistan, Malaysia, India, Japan,
Korea, America, German, France and the scientists from ESA. The
National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE),
Pakistan, the National Microgravity Program, India, the National
Space Agency (ANGKASA), Malaysia, the National Science and Technology
Development Agency (NSTDA), Thailand and other Scientific research
institutes of space in Asia were the first time to participate in.
participants presented 14 plenary lectures, 21 keynote presentations,
50 oral presentations and 59 poster presentations in 4 plenary
meetings and 10 session meetings covered many microgravity science
and related scientific fields including convection,
flow and heat transfer, combustion, complex fluid and fundamental
Station application planning and technology,
experimental technology and others. Scientists from different
countries made discuss and exchange their new experimental
achievements trough the meeting.
Prof. Q.S. LIU, the
researcher of the
Institute of Mechanics, CAS, Prof. J. LUO of the Huazhong University
of Science and Technology and Prof. P. SHANG of the Northwestern
Polytechnical University were invited to give the plenary lectures on
the introduction about their research progress and the latest
research findings the scientific fields of space
microgravity fluid and space life science and biotechnology in the
plenary meetings. Prof. M. GAO of Technology and Engineering Center
for Space Utilization, CAS, Prof. Gi-hyuk Choi from KARI, Dr. Oliver
Minster, ESA Head quarters, Physical Sciences Unit Head and Prof.
Makoto ASASHIMA, they were invited to give the introduction about
their research progress and the space experiment planning on the
scientific fields in different countries.
Dr. Xue CHEN, Dr.
Qiang WANG and Dr. Xu Wen WANG, the PH.D. Students of the Institute
of Mechanics (CAS), got the “Grand Student Awards” and “Best
Student Awards” of the Symposium.
Joint Work Meeting
of Microgravity Societies in Asian country was held during this time,
many participants attended the meeting who were from China, Japan,
and India. They reached a consensus on strengthen exchanges between
the scientists in Asian countries, and determined the next symposium
will be held in Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan on Oct. 26-29,
gives a communication platform for all the participants not just the
Asia countries but also the Europe and America international
microgravity research institutions. Trough this symposium,
participants got the latest research results on Space and
Ground-based simulation of microgravity science and other related
fields. The possible joint experiment proposals were also discussed
during the meeting. The symposium was a great success.
