The 2nd French-Chinese conference on Microfluidics, chaired by P. Tabeling from ESPCI, France and ZH. Li from Institute of Mechanics, CAS, was held in Paris on Oct 11-14, 2009. 17 Chinese scientists participated the conference among the total 80 delegates. 10 keynotes were presented, including BC. Lin, YP. Zhao, J.L. Viovy. J.L. Barrat. Y. Chen etc. On behalf of the committee, ZH Li and A.M. Gue from LAAS Toulouse reported the status and trends in microfluidics researches in both countries. The conference is supported financially by ESPCI, LNM, the Embassy of France in China and GDR.
The conference focused on 5 topics: Droplet based microfluidics, Physics of microfluidics, Microfluidic technology, Microfluidics for Biology and Gas microflows. The polymer microfluidics chip fabrication, microfluidics chip integration, simulation of microflow and experimental measurements presented by Chinese colleagues gave deep impressions. The Biological applications of microfluidics, manipulation of microdroplets and the physics of microfluidics presented by French delegates draw much attention. After the conference, Chinese participants visited the lab of microfluidics in ESPCI, the lab of microfluidics in ENS and the physical chemistry lab in the Institute of Curie.
To further strength the cooperation research on Microfluidics between two countries, the delegates are more concerned about the exchanging of post-doctors and carrying out the common frame propositions. It is also decided that the 3rd French-Chinese conference on microfluidcs will be held in Dalian, China in 2011, organized by the Dalian University of Technology (DUT) and the Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS. A.M. Gue from LAAS, Toulouse and Chong Liu from DUT will co-chair the 3rd conference.
