Prof. Gareth Pender, the head of School of the Built Environment, Heriot Watt University in United Kingdom, paid a visit to the Institute of Mechanics from Sept.14 to Sept.16, under the invitation of Professor Liu Qingquan, the head of the Key Laboratory of Environmental Mechanics (LEM). This visit is a part of the bilateral cooperation and communication supported by the Royal Society, United Kingdom.
Professor Pender introduced the interest and status of the School of Built Environment, visited the related laboratory and gave an invited lecture on flood inundation modeling. Many students and teachers of LEM attended the lecture, and had detailed discussions with the guest on their academic interest.
Professor Li Jiachun introduced the achievement of IMECH and the research orientation of LEM to the guest. Professor Liu Qingquan introduced the history, status, aim and the recent progress of the LEM. The two sides had an in-deep discussion on the interesting progress on the environment and disaster problems, and looked forward the prospect of the bilateral cooperation.
