Initialization of the International Workshop on Process Tomography was held at Institute of Mechanics on April 15. This international workshop was organized by Institute of Mechanics and co-organized by Zhejiang University and Leeds University of UK.

The Beijing session - "Electrical resistance tomography and its applications" was held from April 15 to April 18 and Hangzhou session - "Electrical capacitance tomography and its applications" from April 19 to April 22. The meeting concluded successfully at April 22.

Process Tomography is an emerging measurement technology with applications in industries such as chemical engineering, exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas, environmental protection and mineral processing etc. The Initialization of the International Workshop on Process  Tomography majors in the most up-to-date research results on Process Tomography, in particular,  on Electrical Tomography, The workshop aims to provide a board international forum for world researchers, engineers and professionals working in the area of Process Tomography to discuss and exchange their findings, ideas and views.

The participators discussed in depth on the topics including physical fundamental and process modeling, sensor design, image reconstruction, process tomography based instrumentation, data interpretation and data fusion, simulation of process tomography, process control, industrial applications, and commercial systems etc. About 20 reports titled as "Direct Prediction of Structure and Permeability of Flocculated Structures and Sediments Using 3D Tomographic Imaging", "Tomographic Visualisation of Semi-batch Precipitation with Multi-zone Mixing Model Validation", "Electrical Tomography for Two-phase Flows: 'Seeing without eyes' inside stirred vessels", "Applications of Electrical Tomography for Imaging Industrial Processes", "Full Electrode Models in Electrical Impedance Tomography", "Imaging Technologies in Oilfield Applications", "EM cross-well imaging", "Volumetric Fraction Measurement in Oil-Water-Gas Multiphase Flow with Dual Energy Gamma-Ray System", "A novel ERT system for multiphase flow measurement", "Measurement of Oil Volume Fraction and Velocity Profiles in Vertical Oil-in-Water Flows Using ERT and a Local Probe", "Analyses of the Rise Velocity of Bubble Swarm and Sauter Mean Bubble Size in Bubble Columns Using Electrical Resistance Tomography" etc. were presented and discussed.
