Scientist of Applied Mechanics and Explosion Mechanics; A native of Yinxian, Zhejiang Province; Graduated from Tsinghua University in 1947; Received PhD Degree in Applied Mechanics & Mathematics from California Institute of Technology, USA in 1952; Research Professor of IMCAS.

Returned to China from abroad in 1955; Executive Deputy Director and Director of IMCAS from October 1978 to December 1989; Elected as Member (Academician) of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980 and Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1994; Elected as Foreign Associate of National Academy of Engineering, USA in 1993.
